HUNNIC TRIBES, Western Turks. Tegin, circa 680-700. Pashiz (Bronze, 15 mm, 0.49 g, 5 h), Zabul, RY 2. Draped bust of the king facing slightly to right, wearing an elaborate winged crown with a lion’s head on top and two ribbons hanging from the back; behind head, ‘GDE’, i.e. ‘xwarrah’ (‘Glory’ in Pahlavi); before head, ‘tkyn' bg hwtyp'’, i.e. ‘Tegin bay xwadēw’ (‘Lord [and] King Tegin’ in Pahlavi). Rev. Fire altar flanked by two attendants; to left, ‘TLYN'’, i.e. ‘dō’ (‘Two’ in Pahlavi); to right, ‘zʾwl’, i.e. ‘Zāwul’ (‘Zabul’ in Pahlavi). Album 48H. Gyselen 113. Zeno 98767. Extremely rare. Areas of weakness and some edge chipping, otherwise, very fine.
